Meet Patrick Hughes

Patrick Hughes is grateful for the opportunity to work with individuals as a clinician at Grief Relief, LLC. Everyone deals with loss differently. Because of this, he meets clients where they are in their process, making room for the sometimes contradictory human response. Making sense of how we understand ourselves and how this all fits together is part of that process. Patrick Hughes uses genuine care, authenticity, and humor to help individuals move forward in a way that trends towards health.

Patrick Hughes is a licensed professional counselor, a registered drama therapist, clinical supervisor, and educator. Previous to his current role, he worked as a therapist in hospitals, health centers, nursing homes, and in private practice. Patrick Hughes has taught at the graduate and undergraduate classes at Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. He also ran workshops in a variety of spaces including hospitals, corporate events, and theaters. He taught classes in ethics, psychopathology, human development, adolescence, and provided regular clinical instruction and supervision for clinicians.

Patrick Hughes works with individuals, couples, families, and groups. He believes that the purpose of therapy is to provide the scaffolding for transformation. This starts with understanding, utilizing the tools necessary to facilitate moving forward in a thoughtful and flexible way. He brings empathy, compassion, and understanding to the work. He works with a range of issues including isolation, depression, anxiety, grief, and adjustments to life that come from major changes at work and relationships.

Patrick Hughes has an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Theater from Oberlin College in Ohio. He is a graduate degree in Mental Health Counseling and Expressive Arts Therapies from Lesley University. While living in Boston, MA, he spent three years as a clinician at the Arbour Hospital Partial Hospitalization Program and the Whittier Street Health Center. He was in those positions in Boston, MA. Patrick Hughes is the former (2016-2019) Ethics Chair of the North America Drama Therapy Association. He continues to serve on their ethics committee.
